AM or FM? New Channels....

In the 70s, Many of us used the illegal 40 American AM channels. After much pressure, our government finally gave us a set of 40 FM channels in the 80s, but on a different "split" than any other country. For example, On the American, (and other,) channels, all frequencies ended in 5. So for example channel 20 would be 27.205 MHz. In the UK, the same channel would be 27.79125 MHz. Different to all other countries!

Later the UK also accepted the CEPT channels which were exactly the same as the American channels, but using FM mode instead of AM. They never really took off, although many rigs had both sets of channels available.

Recently, the EU has seen reason and finally legalised the American channels throughout Europe, (Some of you may have seen me on BBC Breakfast News talking about it.)

You can now legally use 4 Watts AM, or 12 Watts SSB, (Single Side Band,) or as mentioned previously, FM. PLUS we have still got the UK channels released in the 80's - By far our most popular band.

SO! Its a great time to get into CB in the UK. We have more legal channels than any other country and many of the rigs that I sell have all of these channels in a compact and affordable package.

Get talking!
